Let The Children Talk

My daughter wanted to write something on The Earth Blog, so I let her.

This is it, unedited. If a 7 year old cares so much, why can't everyone?

I think that people should stop driving cars so fast down roads.

people should start making green lanes so that the amount of pollution can be lowerd.

make sighns that tell you how fast you can go down one number.

If you drive cars so fast you could damege the earth!

If you stop cuting down trees in woods more animals will have homes.

example of how animals feel : how would you like it if an animal traped you up in a cage and never let you free!

make sure that animals have a chance to live like you.

i'm 13 years old and i worry about OUR future. how can we survive in this air polluted world? we can't, but how can we fix it? what can a kid do if no one takes a time to listen. every body at home can start by recycling. then maybe, start using accesories with no CFC's. later people can join a group and help clean up a public surrounding, like a park. little acts like these will guarantee further living. take care of yourself, as well as OUR ozone layer. thank you.

Hi Blanca. Talk to your friends, and get them to talk to theirs - spread the word that we all need to think about our actions and reduce everything damaging we do. Good to hear a young voice. K.

I am 13 years old, and live in Canada. I think the main problem is oil. America has an obsession with oil, and the rest of the world has similar problems. There are liitle things we can all do to help. A big thing if you are old enough to driven is get a biodiesel engine... they are not bad for the environment.

Hi Lenore

Biodiesel is cleaner, and might help the environment a little, but the plants will have to be grown somewhere, probably on land that is wild at the moment, and will have to be fertilised (which takes energy). The best thing is to drive less - that way we will be able to cut carbon emissions and at the same let wildlife have the land they deserve. It's a good topic to discuss at school, and will make a lot of people think about the wider issues.

And thanks for reading The Earth Blog.

I too feel that the children know and sense the truth of what adults do. I certainly did, even at age 7, i thought the adults were insane and dangerous. Looking at how they behaved and at history was enough to convince me even then.

If children were to voice in our 'political assemblies' we would hear more common sense than is currently heard, this is a fact.

It is also true that we borrow this world from our childrens future, and we deny them their basic life rights by excluding them.

Maybe it's significant that children have no truck with, nor interest in politics. They believe in getting things done now. Political bodies are simply tools of commerce, always pretending they care about the people, but only serving their real masters.

My children want things to change now - not within the next political cycle. You are right - we must listen to our children.
